Language and culture week

Our one week language and orientation program is designed to give volunteers a head start before they actually work in a volunteer project. Through the program, you’ll learn about the history, culture, political situation and the mentality of the people. This will give you a very good idea of what to expect from the people you’ll be working with. You’ll also learn local language, which will make communicating with local people much easier. As part of the program, you’ll also tour historical, religious and cultural sites of the city of Delhi. After completing the program, you’ll be fully ready to take on any challenges your volunteer program might throw at you.

Program Schedule

Day	Activities
Day 1:	Orientation; volunteers will be briefed about the short history of India, religion, cast system, economic development, marriage, festivals, dress, family values, geographical features, safety issues, food, transportation, and host family and project information. Hindi language introduction with the greetings words.
Day 2:	Hindi language (3 hours a day, you can visit local market and send emails to your family and friends in your free time)
Day 3:	New Delhi Sightseeing (5 -7 hours a day): Lotus Bahai Temple, Humayun’s Tomb and Qutub Minar
Day 4:	Hindi language continues
Day 5:	Old Delhi Sightseeing: India Gate, Red Fort, Jama Mosque and Raj Ghat (Gandhi Samadhi)
Day 6:	Hindi language continues + washing clothes, packing things or Watching Hindi Movies in the afternoon
Day 7:	introduction with the kids or project staffs

Internship In India

India Internship Program

The internship program of Aimabroad Volunteers is a wonderful opportunity to gain extremely valuable experience in developing or underdeveloped countries by working in areas like social work, healthcare, education, conservation and many others. The program is ideal for students who want to seek academic credit to complete their program. Even if you don’t need the credit, enrolling in our internship program will still give you many benefits compared to just volunteering in a project. Here is what makes our internship program unique:

A supervisor

Aimabroad Volunteer will appoint you a supervisor, under which you will conduct research, study, work and write a report. The supervisor will be an expert in the field you will chose to work and the person will guide you and give you all the necessary backup for you to become an expert in the area you choose to study. Because of the guidance you’ll receive, you’ll finish your internship program successfully and gain much more out of it.

Fully Customized Internship Program

You can choose from many different areas to do your internship. If you are a social worker and would like to study and work in a similar field, we can offer you orphanage project; an environmental student can work in our conservation project; someone from educational background can do their work in the schools. There are many areas for you to choose from. They are:

• Flexible Program

  You can choose how long you want to intern. The longer the better but we offer you shorter option also. You can basically choose from 2-12 weeks and enroll anytime of the year. On top of that, you can intern in more than one area if you want. For instance, you can choose to spend half of your time looking at environmental issues and the other half working at orphanages.
  

  Unique Cultural Experience

  With Aimabroad Volunteers, your internship program will be much more than a normal experience. In our unique model, you’ll also learn about the culture and customs of your host country and make local friends. Many interns start their program with your unique language and culture immersion program. The program familiarizes the participants intimately with Indian Culture. After that, you’ll then stay with a host family during your program. Your host family will serve you 3 local meals and take you in as a family member. Staying with a host family will be a wonderful opportunity to learn about local customs and cuisines and you can even practice local language skills you’ll have acquired by participating in our language and cultural program. A typical Itinerary:

Aimabroad Volunteer and Travel group itineraries are usually broken up into three phases: orientation, volunteer projects and travel. Depending on the amount of time your group has, we will develop each phase specifically for you. Aimabroad staff works hard to ensure that each phase is meaningful and well-organized so that your group can have the most rewarding experience possible.

• Orientation Phase: Depending on your available time, your group can choose an orientation lasting 1-7 days. The orientation will give your group information about your destination, daily life, local foods, safety issues, religion, history and basic information about your project. With more time, we also plan field trips, language courses and cultural immersion programs.
• Volunteer Phase: Once you complete your orientation, your group will then travel to your volunteer project site. Depending on how much time your group has available, you can volunteer  from 4 days to 12 weeks. It’s completely up to you. Depending on your group’s interests, you can choose from a variety of projects such as working in an orphanage, school, construction project, health awareness (basic health and sanitation and disease prevention, etc.), women’s projects, teaching, community development projects, conservation efforts, etc.  volunteers will stay with a host family, home base or hostel.
• Travel Phase: As an international volunteer, you will have the unique opportunity to explore new cultures, discover exotic flora and fauna, engage in new adventures and meet new people. Again, depending on the time you have, you can travel for 2 to 12 or more days. This phase is a time to relax and explore after knowing that you’ve done your part to help others in the world. 
• You can explore Agra , Jaipur , Delhi , Rishikesh , Dharamshala . shimla  and many more cities .

Feed Back , Medical volunteering

For the last three weeks I decided to step out of my comfort zone and volunteer in Faridabad India with AIM abroad. My first reaction off the airplane was complete culture shock of seeing a new country. I was so surprised by what I saw a part of me wanted to re board the plane back to India but now I can confidently say I am extremely happy to have stayed and had this experience. You learn so much each an every single day that every day truly feels like a week and every week feels like a day.

One of the most amazing parts of this experience was living with the host family. The amount of hospitality and kindness the host family displays became vital to help me cope with my new surroundings and feel comfortable. The host family is always working to make sure you are happy often going out of their way to sacrifice their own luxury to make you more happy. They help to work to make sure you accomplish all of your goals and constantly work to make sure you are safe and comfortable. As I traveled to various places in India I can easily say the best place I have stayed is with my host family. And I will guarantee if the family's kindness doesn't amaze you the food surely will.

While in India I was able to volunteer at a hospital, ambulance service and a afternoon slum school. In terms of the medical volunteering you are exposed to a completely different health care system that is shocking. It was amazing that I was only a college student and was able to sit in a c-section, gallbladder removal, urinary stone removal  and other various surgeries that even medical student in America would never be able to see. Aside from the medical exposure the  patient doctor interactions and cost of health care that I was exposed to gave me a unique perspective on my own health care system. Seeing this helped remind me why I wanted to be a doctor and helped show me how to truly help people.

Although I came for medical volunteering my experience in volunteering in the slum school was both surprising and amazing. Being exposed to people in India with the least almost taught me the most. To be hanging out with kids that are so happy to show you that they can recite the ABC's was mind blowing. While most kids in America are happy to receive a new toy these kids are just as excited to be picked up and tossed in the air or played with. On Christmas me and the other volunteers went to hang out with the kids which was amazing. We simply drew a Christmas tree on a blank piece of paper and handed them to the kids to color in. The awe and happiness the kids had over something so simple was sensational and something I could never forget. Being in the slums shows you the true strength of Indians and how people with nothing can have the same strength and greatness of the richest people in India.

Aside from volunteering the people you meet create friendships that are really amazing. Sharing such amazing experiences with other people make those just as unique and important as the experiences. At the end of such 3 short weeks I can confidently 100 percent guarantee that the people I met are life long friends and some of the friendships I will cherish for the rest of my life. I am writing this at the end of my experience and there is so much to say I feel like nothing I say can truly sufficiency express how amazing this experience was.
